How to find the perfect fit for my child?
-
1. Measure both feet
Start by measuring both of your child's feet. It's not uncommon for one foot to be slightly larger than the other. Use a ruler or a measuring tape to get the length of each foot.
-
2. Shoe size
Use the measurements to determine the appropriate shoe size. Keep in mind that shoe sizes may vary depending on the brand, so it's best to try on shoes to find the most suitable size.
-
3. Shop in the afternoon
Feet tend to swell during the day, so it's recommended to shop for shoes in the late afternoon or evening when the feet are at their largest.
-
4. Wear appropriate socks
Bring or wear the type of socks your child will typically wear with the school shoes. This ensures you get the right fit, especially if they wear thicker or special socks.
-
5. Toe space
There should be about a 1.2cm (or a thumb's width) of space between the longest toe (usually the big toe) and the front of the shoe. This allows room for growth and prevents the toes from being cramped.
-
6. Heel fit
The shoe should provide a snug fit around the heel without being too tight or slipping off when walking.
-
7. Width
Consider the width of the shoe. Some kids may have wider or narrower feet, so it's important to find shoes that accommodate their foot shape comfortably.
-
8. Walk and check
Have your child walk around the store in the shoes to ensure they are comfortable and don't cause any discomfort or pain.
-
9. Check for red marks
After taking off the shoes, check for any red marks on the feet, which may indicate pressure points or improper fit.
-
10. Replace when necessary
Kids' feet grow quickly, so make sure to check the fit of their school shoes regularly. Replace them when they outgrow the shoes or when they show signs of wear and tear.
